PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure determining device for a sensor capable of independently determining a failure of a sensor detecting a parameter for controlling an internal combustion engine without depending on any mutual failure determination. SOLUTION: An output of the sensor in a firs operating condition of the internal combustion engine is detected as a first property (step B40), while an output of the sensor in a second operating condition different from the first one of the internal combustion is detected as a second property (step B60). A failure of the sensor is determined according to the first property detected in the first operating condition and the second property detected in the second operating condition (step B70).
