PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide facsimile apparatus capable of reducing the repetition of reading operation of a transmitting original and the interruption of reading operation on the way of the original and having high operability. SOLUTION: The facsimile apparatus provided with a storage means for storing the picture data of the read original has a detection/control means for setting up the free capacity of the storage device which can store the picture data of at least one page as a threshold, setting up the threshold as a variable value in accordance with a color or monochromatic mode, and when the free capacity of the storage means becomes the threshold or less during the reading of the picture data, inhibiting the reading of the original of a next page.
