<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance heat-resistance of a ternary catalyst 8 containing Ba. <P>SOLUTION: An alumina coat layer 11 is formed on a surface of a carrier 10 and catalyst layers 12, 13 containing Ba are formed on this alumina coat layer 11.
