FIELD: metallurgy.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to magnesium-thermal production of spongy titanium. Method comprises pouring magnesium into a retort, supply of titanium tetrachloride and conducting the process of recovery of titanium tetrachloride by magnesium at supply of titanium tetrachloride in an amount less than its theoretical amount 1.0-1.25 times. After finishing the supply of titanium tetrachloride the magnesium chloride is drained, maintained for 1-1.5 hours and magnesium chloride is additionally drained. Block of spongy titanium is subjected to vacuum-thermal purification from impurities. Then the block is removed from the retort, the middle part is crushed and screened into fraction to produce fractions sized -25+12 mm and -12+2 mm with chlorine content of not more than 0.02 wt%. If necessary, the obtained fractions of -25+12 mm and -12+2 mm are mixed into a common fraction batch sized -25+2 mm.EFFECT: provided is reduced content of impurities of chlorine and its compounds in spongy titanium 4 times.1 cl, 1 ex |
