Vulcanisation of an elastomeric copolymer for from 30 seconds to 15 hours under a pressure of between 7 and 210 kg/cm<2> and at a temperature between 95 and 230 DEG C with subsequent curing for up to 50 hours at between 150 and 315 DEG C gives a rigid, shape-stable vulcanisate. The copolymer comprises vinylidene fluoride and a certain terminally ethylenically unsaturated fluorinated comonomer, defined precisely in Claim 1. From 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of quaternary ammonium or phosphonium compounds, from 0.2 to 5 parts by weight of aromatic hydroxyl or amino compounds, from 3 to 40 parts by weight of at least one, usually inorganic, basic acid acceptor and in addition from 0.2 to 5 parts by weight of a triorganophosphorus oxide or diorganosulphur oxide, based on 100 parts by weight of the copolymer, are mixed therewith. This process facilitates shorter pressure curing, a longer shelf life and good processing properties without impairment of the physical properties of the vulcanisate. |
