Mobile network with software defined networking architecture

摘要

A network core with a software defined networking (“SDN”) controller is provided to control routing of traffic within the network and between the network and the traffic destination. The SDN controller is merged with existing 3rd Generation Partnership Project (“3GPP”) network architecture to enable service deliveries via open application programming interfaces (“APIs”) and move the network core towards an all internet protocol (“IP”), cloud based, and software driven telecom network. The SDN controller can work with, or take the place of policy and charging rules function (“PCRF”) network elements, so that policies such as quality of service and traffic management and routing can be synchronized and managed end to end.

determining service profile information associated with a mobile device based on policy information stored in a policy data store;managing a control plane function for data received from the mobile device based on the service profile information, wherein the managing the control plane function is facilitated by a software defined networking controller performing a first traffic management function on first data received by a packet data network gateway device and performing a second traffic management function on second data transmitted by the packet data network gateway device; andbased on a quality of service, modifying, according to the second traffic management function, a route associated with a transport of the second data.
