<p>The housing (3) is made from a thermoplastic or similar material and is open at one end to permit entry of the contact (6), which may be crimped or soldered (7) to the cable connection (5). The inside of the housing has a moulded tongue (9). As the connector is entered the tongue is depressed allowing the former to slide past. When home the tongue springs back and, by locating against a part of the connector, arrests the latter in its correct position. The plug connection is typically made through holes (2) provided in one face of the housing. Multiple pole connectors can be built up in the same way, the relative positions of access holes (2) and tongues (9) being chosen to suit the shape of plug to be employed.</p> |
