1456625 Seals; shafts GENERAL MOTORS CORP 14 May 1975 [9 Sept 1974] 20303/75 Headings F2B and F2U Grease-retaining pockets are formed at the ends of a hollow gear-box shaft 7 by elastomeric plugs 38, which are snapped into place. The plugs, which may be of fluorocarbon rubber are seated on ribs 36 and have air escape holes 44, so that they are not dislodged by air pressure when the externally splined ends 31, 34 of solid shafts 30 and 32 of an alternator (8) and starter (10) respectively, are inserted into the internally splined ends of shaft 7. The accessory drive gear-box 6 is suspended below an aircraft gas turbine engine (2, Fig. 1, not shown) with which it is supplied and the alternator (8) and starter (10) are subsequently bolted to the gearbox. |
