The brake linings of a motor vehicle contain conducting elements in order to signal the wear and also to signal if the temperature exceeds a certain value. The metallic part of the brake provides an electrical contact for the conductors. This method overcomes problems associated with poor resistance of existing methods to temperature and humidity. Wear and temperature detectors are contained in casings (29) located in a hole (39) in the brake lining (15). A number of detectors may be employed to sense different parts. The detectors are mounted in the brake support plate to permit electrical conductors (33, 34) to be connected to detector indicator circuits. The wear detector elements vary according to requirements but comprise a pattern of resistive material on a base material.
|
