Detector for determining the partial pressure of gases, esp. of oxygen in liquids, comprises a separating membrane, which is impermeable to the electrolyte but permeable to the appropriate gases. The membrane surrounds the measuring system and isolates it from the medium. A layer, on the inner face of the membrane, stabilises the thickness of the electrolyte layer. The stabilising layer is of a micro-porous polypropylene sheet, pref. having a thickness of 10-50 mu. The microporous polypropylene sheet is pref. bonded to a non-porous sheet of the same type, which itself constitutes the membrane, to form a composite sheet. By comparison with stabilising sheets of 'Cellophane' (RTM) and 'Cuprophane' (RTM), the microporous polypropylene sheet does not expand and become soft when satd with the electrolyte. By comparison with the other conventional soln. of a grating or lattice fabric, the thickness is greatly reduced, therefore giving a much more rapid response.
|
