The oil scraper ring is used for cylinders of i.c. engines and is stamped out of an elastic steel material and shaped into a U-cross section. The edges are the parts in sliding contact with the cylinder wall, the base part of the U-shape resting in the base of a groove on the piston. Over the circumference the base is provided with a number of slots, the length of which asymmetrically arranged to the symmetry axis extend beyond the base towards the leg part of the U-shape. The slots thus produce legs of different lengths, which on alternating sides are cut through up to the edges. The legs of different lengths produce contact pressures of different magnitudes resulting in unequal wear of the two edges.
|
