Microbicidal N-phenyl-N-haloacetyl-alanine methyl ester cpds. - useful as fungicides against phytopathogenic fungi

New microbicidal agent contain as >=1 active component a cpd. of formula (I) (where Z1 is CH3 or Cl; z2 is Cl or Br; Z3 is H or 1-3C alkyl; and R2 is F,Cl,Br or (I), other than a cpd. mentioned in claim 1 of CH 590607, 595755 or 595756. (I) are fungicides with preventive and curative activity against phytopathogenic fungi on crops, esp. grapes, hops, cucurbits, solanaceae, bananas, cacao and rubber trees. (I) have a systemic fungicidal effect, and can also be used as seed dressings, as soil fungicides, and for protecting seedlings against fungal attack. In a test for curative activity against Phytophthora infestans on tomato (variety Red Gnome), a 0.05% dispersion of DL-N-(1-methoxy-carbonylethyl)-N-chloroacetyl-2-chloro-6-methylan- iline reduces fungal infestation to 0-5% of that of untreated control plants.
