摘要 The invention relates to a medium-alloy chromium nickel vanadium steel for gears having teeth hardened by slit induction hardening in the presence of a pressurised medium. Suitable chromium nickel molybdenum or chromium nickel vanadium steels capable of being age-hardened to high strength were previously used for this gear-teeth surface-hardening process. The novel steel is alloyed in a fundamentally more economical manner than the steels used hitherto, but it has the same properties. This effect is achieved in the novel, more economically alloyed steel because the total content of chromium, nickel and vanadium in the steel is 3.67%, their reciprocal relationship to the carbon as basic constituent of the steel being as follows: % C : % Cr : % Ni : % V = 1 : 5.75 : 3 : 0.425. The invention can be used not only for gears, but also for other machine parts surface-hardened by the method cited.
