The two-position change over valve for a railway vehicle (1) has a trailing sensing arm mounted on a spindle through the housing attached to the vehicle. At the end of the arm is a roller which is just clear of the bogie when the vehicle is unladden. When swung inwards, the other end of the arm compresses a spring around an operating rod & swings a crank arm at the other end of the rod. In a valve for a railway vehicle a mechanical operating system which operates the vehicle with the change of vehicle weight has an operating arm shaft(7), on operating arm lever(14) & a valve housing(20), and drives the operating shaft, a compression spring(9) & lever arms.
