Structure which affords radiation protection to semiconductor devices (32) and which specifically prevents soft failures in semiconductor memories (44) caused by alpha particle radiation. The protection is provided by a metallic radiation shield (28) formed on but insulated from (38) the semiconductor memory array. The radiation shield (28) is formed on the semiconductor devices (32) while they are still in wafer form (30) but after the normal device fabrication has been completed. |
