PURPOSE:To produce an additive for CV cast iron consisting of an Fe-Si-Ti type alloy by adding carbonaceous materials and Fe sources to a mixture of bauxite and Ti sources, smelting these in an electric furnace and separating Al2O3 from the product thereof by a difference in specific gravity. CONSTITUTION:Iron sources such as iron scraps, reducing agents such as coke and, if necessary, Ti ore are added to bauxite, and these are charged into an electric furnace, thereby smelting the materials. An Al2O3 material and a by- produced Fe-Si-Ti type alloy are formed by the smelting. After the smelting, the by-produced alloy and the Al2O3 are separated by a difference in specific gravity, and the alloy is ground to grains of about 5-150mm., whereby an additive for CV cast iron is produced. The preferable compsn. of the additive is, by wt%, about 0.5-15% Ti, about 5-20% Si, and the balance Fe, a small amt. of Al and other impurities. It is necessary to add the additive in combination with spheroidizing agents such as Mg.
|
