PURPOSE:To extend the dynamic range of a head to eliminate the saturation of a reproducing output, by arranging magnetic thin films having the magneto- resistance effect on both sides of a conductor film for bias magnetic field current through insulating layers. CONSTITUTION:A thin film magneto-resistance head consists of a substrate 1, the first magneto-resistance element 2, an insulating film 3, a conductor film 4 for bias magnetic field current which appliesd a bias magnetic field, the second magneto-resistance element 7 having the same magnetic characteristic and shape as the first magneto-resistance element 2, and an insulating film 8. Bias magnetic field in directions opposite to each other are applied to magneto-resistance elements 2 and 7. These applied magnetic fields are set to such magnitude that they are rotated at about 70-80 deg. from the direction of a detecting current to the direction of an axis difficult to magnetize when a signal magnetic field does not exist. Reproducing outputs from two magneto-resistance elements are amplified differentially to extend the dynamic range. |
