In order to be able to transport and store workpieces of predeformed memory metal even at temperatures above the transformation temperature AS without the memory effect being triggered, the predeformed workpieces are positively fastened in a holder adapted to their shape and comprising two or more interlockable parts and, if appropriate, make-up pieces are inserted into cavities of the workpiece and, with positive fastening, the workpieces are additionally braced against them. The process described can be used in particular in the sterilisation of memory implants.
