PURPOSE:To prepare an emulsifiable composition having fine particle size and high stability, and suitable for the use in the fields of food, cosmetic, pharmaceuticals, feed, etc., by emulsifying an oil-phase component in a water-soluble polyhydric alcohol and saponin or its salt. CONSTITUTION:The objective emulsifiable composition contains (A) an emulsifier comprising saponin which is a crude drug existing in nature and is known to have physiological and pharmacological effects such as expectrant, antitussive, antiphlogistic, central nervous system suppressing, and prophylactic effects, etc., and/or its salt, (B) a water-soluble polyhydric alcohol containing >=2 hydroxyl groups in the molecule (e.g. ethylene glycol), and (C) an oil-phase component such as beef tallow, squalane, olive oil, etc. The emulsifiable composition can be converted to a stable O/W-type emulsion composition containing uniformly dispersed fine particles by mixing with water. |
