Device for measuring the oil consumption of internal combustion engines

To determine the oil consumption of test-bed engines, the invention proposes a measuring device in which an oil container arranged separately from the internal combustion engine is filled with lubricating oil and the weight of this oil is indicated by scales. A feed line with an oil pump is passed from the oil container to the oil space. A pipe communicating with the oil space is furthermore connected to the oil sump and has a light barrier which is set to a predetermined oil level and the contacts of which are connected to a switching device. In the event of an oil level lower than the predetermined oil level, the oil pump can be switched on either manually or automatically from the switching device and then pumps lubricating oil into the oil sump until the oil level reaches the light barrier, at which the oil pump is switched off automatically. The weight of the oil consumed is obtained from the difference between the weights of oil indicated by the scales before and after the delivery of oil. The individual elements of the measuring device can be combined to form a mobile unit.
