Novel derivatives of guanine, viz. antiviral compounds of the formula …… wherein each of R1 and R2, which are the same or different is hydrogen, hydroxy or fluoro; provided that R1 or R2 is hydrogen when R1 and R2 are different, and provided that R1 and R2 are hydroxy or fluoro when R1 and R2 are the same; or a physiologically acceptable salt of an optical isomer thereof, methods for their preparation, pharmaceutical preparations containing the compounds, and methods for the treatment of virus infections and other diseases causes by viruses.
