Mobile machine train (10) for the manufacture of wood chips from residual forest timber and defective assortments, consisting of a driving unit (11) having a collecting trailer (23) and a transporting trailer (43). Arranged on the collecting trailer (23) is a collecting container (12), and arranged on the transporting trailer (43) is a transporting container (13). Assigned to the collecting container (12) is a fan base (32), through which the preheated air for drying the collected wood chips can be conveyed. The transporting container (13), in which the condition of the air is regulated by a measuring and regulating centre (34), has a similar fan base (33). Both containers are equipped with in each case one horizontal screw conveyor (27, 36) for displacing the collected material. The driving unit (11) is equipped on its front face with a chipping unit (14) and a jib (16) for feeding residual wood to the chipping unit. The drive is effected by a wood-distilling apparatus (25) which is charged by means of a vertical screw conveyor (26) from the collecting container. <IMAGE>
