PURPOSE:To manufacture expanded polystyrene products of a porosity of 5- 40% by a method in which expanded polystyrene chips of a deformed form are packed into the cavity of molds and pressure steam is introduced into the molds to melt and bond the surfaces of the chips. CONSTITUTION:Prelimarily expanded chips of the maximum length of 2cm or more are stored at ordinary temprature for one day and packed into the cavity of mold consisting of a female mold and a male mold having many steam holes of a diameter of 0.5mm.. The molds are clamped, pressure steam of 160 deg.C is introduced into the cavity, and the surfaces of the chips are melted and bonded to each other. The molds are cooled to 35 deg.C, and opened, and expanded block product 250mm. in length, 400mm. in width, and 80mm. in thickness is taken out of the molds to obtain a molding (buffer material) 10. |
