The device is in particular useful for detecting tubes which have leaks in a tubular heat exchanger in a light water nuclear reactor. This device comprises a supply 22-30 to fill the secondary part of the exchanger, in which the tubes are immersed, with a particular pressurised mixture of air and a search gas, such as helium. It also comprises a supply 32-40 to set up in all the tubes a sweeping flow of air. An analysis apparatus, such as a spectrograph, measures the search gas content of the air at the outlet of the individual tubes. <IMAGE>
