In a water storage tank, especially a hot water storage tank, with an inner casing (2) forming a storage tank space (1), a heat-insulating layer surrounding the inner casing (2), and an outer casing, an optimum insulation with low weight can be realised in a particularly cost-effective manner in that the heat-insulating layer and the outer casing are formed by a one-piece sheathing (8) of an integral foam, preferably a polyurethane integral foam. A process for the production of such a water storage tank is characterised in that the inner casing is preformed, placed in a mould, and if necessary subjected to internal pressure and/or filled with a liquid, in that the starting materials required for the production of an integral foam, especially a polyurethane integral foam, are introduced between the wall of the mould and the inner casing, the wall of the mould is cooled if necessary, and after the conclusion of the formation of the integral foam (conclusion of the moulding process), the inner casing, together with the sheathing formed from the integral foam and representing the heat-insulating layer and the outer casing, is removed from the mould. <IMAGE>
