The removable high roof (14) essentially comprises two parts, a dimensionally stable, frame-like base attachment (16) which is open on two sides and a cover shell (18) which is releasably connected to the base attachment (16). The base attachment (16) can be placed onto the motor-vehicle roof with its lower edge, which is matched to the surface shape of the motor-vehicle roof (10), by pressing against a surrounding, elastic seal (26, 28) and can be fastened to the vehicle in the rain groove (11) in the manner of a roof rack. In this arrangement, the base attachment (16) surrounds the roof cut-out (12) for example of the sliding roof. The roof shell (18) is coupled to the base attachment (16) in the front part at a hinge (20) with a locking pin (22) and in the rear part can be connected to the base attachment (16) with a surrounding seal clamped in between, by means of toggle-type fasteners which can be operated from the inside. With the high roof (14) the standing height in the interior of the vehicle can be increased and an additional luggage compartment provided. For ventilation the roof shell may be raised in the rear region. Because of its two-part design, the high roof which is composed of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic can easily be fitted even by one person on the vehicle roof (10) and removed when not in use. <IMAGE>
