An actuating device for a clutch in a motor vehicle with a clutch pedal, a disengaging mechanism and means of transmission, flexible means being provided in the means of transmission which, in order to prevent inadmissibly high actuating forces, respond only to a force which is significantly greater than the maximum actuating force required for actuation of the clutch and which when they respond permit a defined travel-transmission loss. The flexible means may be a frictional connection or a preloaded spring.
