Compounds useful as inhibitors of the enzyme aryl-coenzyme A: cholesterol acyltransferase having the following formula (I) wherein R is attached to the 3- or 4-position of the phenyl ring and is the group (a) wherein n is zero, one, or two, and R1 and R2 are straight or branched lower alkyl having from one to four carbon atoms or alkyl having from one to four carbon atoms wherein the terminal carbon is substituted with OR3 wherein R3 is hydrogen o r alkyl having from one to four carbon atoms.
