A movable element (14) interacts with time delay means (48, 49, 50) so as to actuate a member for cutting off the current (11). Means forming a spring (39) continuously draw the movable element (14) in one direction towards a position in which it actuates the current cut-off member (11) without opposing a displacement of the said movable element (14) in the opposite direction, either by gravity when the appliance (1) is stood on its end, or due to the movements which are imparted to the appliance (1) in the course of its use. The time delay means (48, 49, 50) are mechanical means which prevent the movable element (14) resuming the said position under the action of the means forming a spring (39) before the end of a predetermined length of time, without opposing a displacement of the latter in the other direction. Use for automatically cutting off the power supply to a movable electrical heating appliance, especially a smoothing iron. <IMAGE>
