Magneto static surface wave isolator for microwave components - has magnetic layer with parallel converter strips as well as a ground surface element to provide at least 30 dB isolation

A magneto static surface wave isolator is used to protect the outputs of active components against poor impedance conditions, particularly in the microwave range. The device has a magnetic layer (2) of a hydroscopic material, such as YIG. On one of the surfaces of the layer, a pair of parallel, strip conductors (4, 6) is provided at a distance (d) from the surface. A bias magnetic field (H) is generated parallel to both converter conductors (4, 6). A ground conducting surface (10) is positioned over the converter strips that has a semiconductor characteristic of about 0.1 - 100 ohms per cubic cm. ADVANTAGE - Provides isolation of at least 30 dB in pass band.
