The sound emitter consists of a supporting structure (40) which is driven through the water, containing vibrating elements (10a,10b,10c) to produce a turbulent wake with a sound signal of a predetermined frequency. The emitter incorporates dampers (44) which allow the amplitude of the sound signal(s) to be adjusted. The supporting structure is an acoustically-transparent cylinder with streamlined ends, either self-propelled or towed through the water. USE - Reproduces the sound signature of a ship, aimed at exploding acoustic mines from a distance.
