In front of a bending machine 1, there is arranged a unit of a 5-axis control robot (5) provided with a work hand (43) at an end thereof, for loading work to the bending machine and unloading a bent work from the bending machine; and a singlework taking-up device (7) for taking up only a single work from stacked works. Therefore, the work loading and unloading device is low in cost and requires a short program preparation and teaching (setup) time. Further, it is also possible to provide the work loading and unloading device movable to any desired positions and provided with a work hand (43) having a double-work take-up detecting device (83) and an upper hand accessible to a bent work without interference with the punch P.
