The invention relates to a method for controlling the access to a read/write memory (3) which is common to two subscribers, using which method the subscribers are asynchronously connected by means of read/write cycles. Each subscriber is assigned a data element which can assume two states, of which one is produced for the purpose of access to the read/write memory, is subsequently stored and, after storage, enables access, and the other is produced by the respective subscriber, is stored and remains stored if access to the read/write memory is not required.
