PURPOSE: To provide a replication facility for supplying a file or partial replication of the file in the distributed environment. CONSTITUTION: In a distributed system having a replication facility 54 and numerous computer systems respectively provided with storage devices, this system is provided with a stage for replicating a single file to be stored in the storage device of one computer system, while using the replication facility 54 so as to store the copy of the file in the storage device of the other computer system by supplying plural files programmed into the tree of files and for replicating the subtree of files on multiple stages from the tree of files to be stored in the storage device of one computer system, while using the replication facility 54 so as to store the copy of subtree of files into the storage device of the other computer system.
