The method for ultrasonic imaging, involves using a 2-dimensional array (2) of transducer elements (Eij) to direct time-delayed ultrasonic energy at an object in transmission mode, and in receive mode to receive signals and process these by a Signal Processor. The transducer elements (Eij) are arranged in sub groups of under-arrays (Gk) for switching, where the transducer (Eki) of each under-array (Gk) is driven with the same time delay and in receive mode read simultaneously.
