A device to prevent unauthorised use of a car has an electronic control unit for the ignition, fuel injection, etc connected with a device which recognises the input of a code, like a magnetic card reader, a chip card reader or a keyboard. The control unit uses a microprocessor. There is an additional system which evaluates and stores operating data like the number of starting attempts, number of hours the car is driven or the distance driven. There is also a system to inform the driver or to communicate with him, when a further period of operation after an initial period is not possible.
