Aq. dispersions of poly(meth) acrylonitrile] particles

The prodn. of aq. dispersions of poly(meth) acrylonitrile (PAN) particles (I), suitable for use in electrophoretic (EP) paint, comprises the emulsion polymerisation of (a) 70-100 wt.% (meth) acrylonitrile and (b) 0-30 wt.% other unsatd. comonomer(s) in aq. phase in the presence of a conventional neutralised EP paint binder and/or a conventional neutralised past resin (II). Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of EP paint, by adding dispersion (I) directly to an aq. EP paint or components thereof without pre-diluting with a paste resin, and then mixing with the other components. Also claimed are aq. dispersions and EP paint obtd. by these processes.
