PURPOSE: To provide a semiconductor laser element which can obtain a monitoring beam sufficient for drive of APC without sacrificing light emitting characteristic of laser. CONSTITUTION: In a semiconductor laser element where a high reflectivity dielectric multilayer film coats the end face of a resonator provided at least one end, the high reflectivity dielectric multilayer film is formed by stacking a high refractive index film and a low refractive index film. A sum of the optical thickness of the high refractive index film and low refractive index can be approximated byλ/2 whereλis oscillation wavelength of laser. Meanwhile, one optical thickness is approximated byλβ/2α(whereαandβare integers andα>=3,α>β).
