PURPOSE: To provide a contact electrifier capable of uniformly electrifying and preventing the occurrence of an electrifying noise and a double melt-stuck image by providing a foamed layer composed of a foamed body having a specific cell diameter on the surface layer of a conductive substrate. CONSTITUTION: In an electrophotographic electrifying member electrifying a photoreceptor 1 in such a manner that an electrifying member 2 is brought into contact with the photoreceptor 1 and a voltage after a DC voltage and an AC voltage are superimposed is impressed, the electrifying member 2 is composed of the conductive substrate 2c and the foamed body 2b formed thereon. Further, the cell diameter of a foamed cell on the surface of the foamed body 2b is made 30-150μm. When the foamed cell diameter is <30μm, hardness is high so that the electrifying noise is generated. Moreover, when the foamed cell diameter is >150μm, the projecting and recessed parts of the surface of the foamed body are made rough and a defective image is generated. For reducing the hardness to make the electrifying noise small, it is desirable that the circular opening ratio of the foamed body is >=35%.
