When the sump oil (2) falls to "minimum" a level sensor (14) initiates pumping (36) from the auxiliary reservoir (8), via an electrically operated valve (12) to the normal cylinder head filler-cap (34). Opt., factory-fitted systems employ a gravity feed direct to the sump. Transfer stops at "maximum" level. Dashboard sump (30) and reservoir (48) level gauges, with a manual control (32), are provided. Another manual control (24) opens the sump drain valve (22) and pumps (40) the crankcase contents into a disposable, or readily emptied (42) used oil tank (18), whose level is also displayed (46, 50). Its mounting height prevents oil escaping if the sump valve (22) fails. Electrical interlocks prevent engine starting with low oil levels. Opt., a miles-run counter reminds the driver to change the oil.
