PURPOSE: To estimate the shearing yield stress and the craze forming stress of various sorts of high polymers, by leading in the physical properties such as the property ratio of high polymers, the flocculating energy density, the glass-transition temperature, and the van der Waals volume, to specific formulas. CONSTITUTION: The property ratio C∞of amorphons glassy high polymers, the flocculating energy densityδ<2> (J/m<2> ), the glass-trausition temperature Tg (K), the van der Waals volume Vw (m<3> ), the skeleton combining number nv , the surface free energyγ(N/m), the entanglement densityνe (m<-3> ), the distance between entanglement points d (m), and the principle chain bond energy U (J), found by the actual measuring and/or the atomic group rendering method, are led into the formula:τY=AC∞δ<2> (Tg-T) (Vw /nv )<1/3> +B, or logσC=Clog-[(γ+νedU /4)τY]+D. As a result, the shearing yield stressτY or the craze forming stressσC of the high polymer at the temperature T can be calculated. In the formulas, the functions A to D take the value within the scope of 3.0×10<5> to 4.0×10<5> , 1.0×10<7> to 1.4×10<7> , 0.5 to 0.7, and 3.0 to 3.5, respectively, according to the measuring condition of the rate of strain and the like.
