A controller selectively operates the heating element to control the temperature of the vessel or the fluid in the vessel. The controller is configured to energize the heating element when (1) the temperature of the heating element is less than a selected high limit temperature of the heating element and (2) the temperature of the vessel or the fluid in the vessel is less than or equal to a selected upper limit temperature.
