SPACER FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT FORMED BY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide spacers for a liquid crystal display element which may be surely fixed to substrates and do not contaminate liquid crystals and do not disturb the orientation of the liquid crystals and the liquid crystal display element formed by using the same. SOLUTION: The spacers 10 for the liquid crystal display element have polymer layers contg. a vinyl polymer crosslinkable by heat on the surfaces of plastic particulates or silica particulates. This vinyl polymer crosslinkable by heat does not substantially have a crosslinked structure and has a gel fraction of >=5.0 to <=80wt.% when heated under temp. conditions used for pressure bonding of a panel. The liquid crystal display element 1 is formed by holding the liquid crystals 9 and the spacers 10 between the substrates 2 and 2' having electrodes 3, 3.
