The mechanism is operated conventionally by a hinged lever arrangement actuated by silent electrochemical volume expansion moving a piston to drive the lever system, under electronic control. The window (1) has a hinged (11) opening section (1a) and a frame (12) and is moved by a unit (3) and hinged lever system (33) by means of a drive shaft (32). The drive shaft is rotated by the action of a piston and worm drive, within the unit (3), which is pushed against a return compression spring by expanding gas in a bellows generated by electronic means by chemical reaction. The return spring may be replaced by a second electrochemical actuator and the mechanism may be applied to a door.
