<p>A vehicle steering wheel assembly (20) comprises a steering wheel (22) having a hub plate (26) assembled with a flexible outer cover (24). The cover (24) and steering wheel (22) define an air chamber (66). A diaphragm (52) is disposed in line with a hole (36) through the hub plate (26) and includes an electrically conductive film (70) on an opposed face (72). In an off position, the electrically conductive film (70) is spaced from a pair of circuit traces (46, 48) in the clock spring (28). The circuit traces (46, 48) control a horn function. An operator applies a force (74) to the outer cover (24) which drives the diaphragm (52) and the electrically conductive film (70) into contact with the circuit traces (46, 48). An electrical circuit is closed and actuates the horn function. When the force (74) is removed from the outer cover (24), the electrically conductive material moves out of contact with the circuit traces (46, 48) and into an off position.</p> |
