Treating fluid for metallic or metallised surfaces contains water-soluble reaction products from water-soluble polyamidoamines and/or polyamines with epihalohydrin. Also claimed is the production of the treating fluid by initially condensing a dicarboxylic acid with a functional derivative of a carboxylic acid and a polyamine and crosslinking the polyamidoamine obtained with epihalohydrin.
