PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method for drawing a glass preform by which a rod having tapered both ends and a prescribed length can efficiently and continuously be produced and an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: This method for drawing a glass preform comprises repeating a step for continuously feeding a drawn rod 16 to the next step, heating and softening a prescribed place of the rod 16 with a flame of a burner 19 moving at the same speed as the speed at which the rod 16 is fed, holding both ends of the resultant softened part 18, changing the relative speed of both ends, drawing and attenuating the diameter of the softened part 18, cutting off the attenuated diameter part 22 and repeating the step when continuously producing a product rod 21 from a glass preform 1. |
