The chain holder, for a heavy duty lifting chain operated manually or electrically, has a chain holder bonded to the end section (8) of the lifting chain (4), which can be secured at least at two mounting points (12). The chain holder has a chain pocket section (17) in a curved arc, with a rising radial plane (19). It has chain link pockets (21), in the width of a chain link (22) for it to be laid flat and at an angle, and with a passage groove (26) to take the leg of an upright chain link (27).
