PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically detect the trouble by the winding of a yarn around a roll by detecting the presence of the yarn winding from the change of the reflected light from the roll surface. SOLUTION: In a normal state where no white yarn winds around a drive roll 5, a photoelectric sensor 10 does not receive the reflected light reflected by the roll surface since it is set obliquely to a rotating shaft, and judges no winding of white yarn. The reflection type photoelectric sensor 10 is mounted so that it can receive, when the white yarn is present, the reflected light having an angle of 5-85 deg. to the perpendicular drawn from the contact point of tangent drawn on the roll surface with the roll surface on the lane formed by rotating the perpendicular in the roll rotating direction. Since a reflected light 11B is not returned to the sensor in the normal state where no winding of yarn is present, the sensor output is turned OFF. In case of a trouble where the yarn winds around the drive roll 5, the reflected light 11B is returned to the sensor 10 by irregular reflection, and the sensor output is turned ON.
