PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device having high-quality display performance without giving adverse influences on the liquid crystal such as disturbance in the alignment of the liquid crystal even when impact is added to the liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The spacer used for a liquid crystal display device has the following characteristics relating to the elution peak in chromatography which uses the spacer as a stationary phase to pack the column, uses a liquid having 8.5 to 23.5 (cal/cm3) solubility parameter as a mobile phase, and passes liquid crystal molecules through the column. In the elution peak, the retention time (t)(min) of the elution peak, the peak width W1/2 (min) at 50% height of the elution peak, the column length L (mm) used for the measurement, and the average particle diameter D (mm) of the spacer for a liquid crystal display device used to pack the column define a parameter P-value by P=(t/ W1/2)2×D×L, and the P-value is 25 or more.
